Braving rains and bad weather the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) Executive Body members from various distant Districts assembled at the DSS Bhawan today on 7th of March, 2020 in an urgent meeting convened by their president Th. Gulchain Singh Charak. The members deliberated upon the modalities of the 116th Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was scheduled later this month. However in consideration of the Government Advisory over Corona Virus, it was decided to postpone the meeting to end April, 2020. The firm dates will be announced after review of the situation in early April 2020.
The meeting decided to have a two day event for revival of the ‘Duggar Mela’ co-opted with the AGM. Some vital decisions were taken about the resolutions to be adopted. Among these were the demands to be projected to the Government to restore the J&K State with post Article 370 status as promised by the Central Govt. at the earliest that should include the vast areas as existed during the erstwhile J&K princely State. It was also decided to project the demand for functioning of both Jammu and Kashmir secretariats round the year to mitigate half the year access and reduce perpetual wasteful expenditure, disturbance and discontinuity. It was proposed to have full fledged Door Darshan Kendra for Jammu, restoration and renovation of heritage monuments including the prestigious and historical Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex development of Jammu heritage based tourism, completion of all pending projects. The DSS also took upon itself voluntary service to clean and maintain the Jambu Lochan Statue and the Gen Zorawar Singh Chowk occasionally on as required basis to avoid neglect and keep them presentable.
Members whole heartedly welcomed government decision on delimitation but pointed out that the exercise will be futile on old 2011 census figures and demanded fresh census to include voters of West Pakistan refugees, SC & ST population now included in the UT.
Various Committees were constituted to include Committee for drafting resolutions to include Brig MS Jamwal, Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, VrC and G. A. Khwaja, Ex DC and Anil Padha. A Duggar Mela Committee was formed headed by Janak Khajuria to include, Madan Rangila, Ashok Charak, Anil Singh & B. S. Thakur. The revision of the DSS brochure, invitation cards and individual invitations was assigned to Col Dr Virendra Sahi. It was also decided that this year besides the achievers of distinguished awards, those who got handicapped during enemy action on borders/CI operations will also be honoured to include civilian porters working for the forces. In this respect an Award Committee was also Constituted which included Prof. R. R. Sharma (Ex VC), Prof. R. D. Sharma, (Ex VC) and Maj. Gen. Mrs. Sunita Kapoor (Retd) VSM. The decision of inviting the Chief Guest was also deliberated upon and availability/ suitability of various VIPs were considered. It was decided to arrive at a final decision in the next meeting while fixing the firm dates.
