Jammu, 26th July, 2024. Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister and president of the Dogra Sadar Sabha, along with members of the Sabha, paid heartfelt tribute to the Kargil War heroes and martyrs at Sabha Bhawan, Jammu, and at the Balidan Stambh (War Memorial), Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh Charak remembered the unsung heroes of the country, emphasizing that their sacrifices and bravery will never be forgotten. He stated, “We can never forget the sacrifice and bravery of our soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. Their valour and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all.”He also threw light on the role of porters who also played an important role in helping our soldiers in this whole difficult terrain.
The event saw a gathering of Sabha members who came together to honor the courage and dedication of the soldiers who fought valiantly in the Kargil War. Floral tributes were offered, and a moment of silence was observed in memory of the fallen heroes.
Sh Charak highlighted the importance of remembering and recognizing the contributions of these brave souls, ensuring that their legacy lives on. He urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the martyrs’ patriotism and dedication to the nation.
The Dogra Sadar Sabha remains committed to honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s soldiers and continues to support initiatives that promote their welfare and commemorate their heroic deeds.
Lt. Gen. RK Sharma, Col. V K Sahi (VRC) and Col. Karan Singh vice president of Dogra Sadar Sabha detailed the origins and significance of the Kargil War, which started in May 1999 when Pakistani troops and militants infiltrated into Indian territory in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict, lasting until July 1999, was marked by intense high-altitude warfare, making it one of the most challenging battles in modern military history . The Indian Army, supported by the Indian Air Force through Operation Vijay and Operation Safed Sagar, successfully reclaimed the occupied territories . The war resulted in over 500 Indian casualties, highlighting the severe cost of the conflict.
Prominent among others present were G. A. Kahwaja, Col. J.P. Singh, Syed Amanat Ali Shah, Srdr. Balwinder Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Chhanker Singh, Dr. V.S. Sharma, Narayan Singh, Rajeev Kumar, Ravi Singh, Pawan Sharma.
