Frustrated from the hollow slogans, false promises, un-kept assurances and projects hanging in lurch for years together, the peaceful and ever-tolerant, soft spoken, shy and hospitable population of Jammu Division is now pinning its hopes on Civil Society. Politicians of all hues, variety of political dispensations, combinations, political dynasties and catch ‘twenty two’ type marriages of compulsion have all deprived this region of their genuine share of the enormous aid received from the Central Government, which has been a persistent complaint of Jammu.
Enough had been enough and the people of this deprived region are now rising up to a new dawn and looking at workable alternatives which can project the voice of Jammu to include one and all trades, rising above any communal, religious, cast or creed gaps.
In the above backdrop, an extraordinary meeting of the All Jammu, Civil Society Forum was held in the Dogra Sadar Sabha hall under the Convener Th. Gulchain Singh Charak and Co- Convener Shri Abdul Majid held on 4th of Aug, 2016.
Welcoming the members Th G S Charak expressed deep concern over the continued state of unrest and violence in the Kashmir Valley. He requested all political leaders of the burning Valley to rise above petty inter-party rivalries and put in efforts to douse the fire rather than making emotional statements that add fuel to fire. He further requested the veterans of the separatist movement to have mercy on the poor families whose lads are being pushed forward in futility as gun fodder as cheaply available indoctrinated human resource. He went further to request each parent, each elder and everyone who can read the nefarious game set to destroy Kashmir by the Pakistani ISI, in frustration of their failure in grabbing it. Save these boys, you fully understand that they cannot fight the might of a nation with bare hands and stones and you have already tried guns and ruined many more families, earlier. Expressing grief over the 52 deaths he said they are our Indian children and could be bread earners and the ‘Chirag’ of some families. “Violence begets violence and resolves nothing”, he said. “Shun violence, get in the main stream and resolve all your issues by dialog under the constitution” he added.
Taking a dig at the recent statement of the J&K Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, he said, “I agree with the CM. Jammu has not produced the type of leadership she is used to in the Valley. When the Valley is on fire, sentiments are high, children are dying every other day, the Valley leaders of all sorts, instead of calming down emotions and controlling lawlessness, are busy debating which type of gun is more appropriate to shoot at the violent mobs.
The members expressed their resolve to work for:-
- A) A permanent peaceful resolution of present J&K crisis which is acceptable to all the three regions of the state.
- B) Build a strong, united and secular Jammu region ensuring its uniform and sustained development at all levels.
- C) Better understanding amongst all the segments of society within the Jammu region so that there is complete unity and harmony in the whole Jammu region.
- D) Initiate meaningful dialogue within different unites of Jammu region so as to unite and coordinate our thoughts and actions.
- E) To bring the entire social and trade organization on single platform so that a strong voice of Jammu emerges.
- F) Losses suffered by businessmen/ Traders/ Transporters of Jammu region needs to be duly compensated.
The speakers noted with serious concern the enormous bloodshed witnessed by the people of State during the last over seven decades. Time has now come when it must stop and stop for ever. It is unfortunate that politician have adopted the policy of “wait and watch” which has led to the present situation.
The members appealed all the social and regional entities in Jammu to remain united and uphold the secular ethos as any communal agenda shall divide and weaken Jammu region. That must be avoided at all costs.
While concluding the deliberations , the members expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in Kashmir valley and appealed the civil society groups to rise to the occasion and help restore peace on valley as all the political and social organization have been rendered ineffective in the present day crisis. The chaos will not help the valley and has been adversely affecting their overall development for a long time. It be noted that no outside force can help Kashmir except the civil society of Kashmir valley itself, which should assert its strength and bring the valley back to normally.
