ACHIEVEMENTS
Some of the historic achievements such as introduction of state subject certificates to Safeguard of interest of native inhabitants, freedom of press and providing platform to general public to raise their problem and free education and scholarships to the needy students, the Dogra Sadar Sabha under the Presidentship of Th. Gulchain Singh Charak has the following to its credit.
In 1989, it was overhauled and broad-based to the far flung areas of the region. During the period of turmoil and turbulences, Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K held mass contacts, public meetings, social and cultural functions with sole mission of inculcating communal harmony and working concertedly to subvert nefarious activities of inimical forces to ensure their all-round peace,progress and development.
Sabha succeeded in installing the bust of Raja Jamulochan an apostle of communal amity. Dogra Art Museum got established and Jammu Archives got refurbished in Mubarak Mandi Complex, Jammu. Foundation of Vir Bhoomi Park (War memorial) was laid at Samba, tourist and pilgrimage centers at Purmandal and Utter Behani were got promoted by starting holy Charri Mubarak Yatra. Wold renowned Dogra artists like Sh. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Allah Rakha Khan (Santoor & Tabla Maestros) & Smt. Padma Suchdeva Sahib (Dogri Poetess) were honoured for the promotion of art and culture.
During the peak days of militancy, 1990-91, we under the patronage of high profile central leaders toured the vulnerable areas of Rajouri and Poonch and succeeded in turning the tide and winning the public to support for the national cause and as well changed mind set of hardcore militants who joined the national mainstream and are still upholding the National Flag.
During Chare-re- Sharief, we in the company of Sh. Arjun Singh ji visited the sites, consoled the affected and made bridges with opposing elements.
On the permistent demand of the public regarding the inclusion of Dogri language in the 8 th scheduled of the Indian constitution, a composite agitation was started and subsequently and strong delegation of hundreds of activists of the state staged protest Dharna at Delhi and with the active support of the congress party stalwarts and other prominent leader succeeded in accomplishing our mission.
In order to maintain and perpetuate communal harmony, Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K has been holding functions on message of humanity in which world renowned scholars of all religions delivered their sermons to promote the mission. Beside this the Sabha has been organizing functions to celebrate the festivals of all religions.
The other significant achievements of Dogra Sadar Sabha are:-
1) Organising “Duggar Mela” Later named as Jammu Festival on Large scale
in whole of the Duggar Pradesh depicting the Dogra Culture.
2) Preservation of Dogra Heritage as follows: –
a) Succeeded in installing the bust of Raja Jamboolochan (founder of Jammu
City) an apostle of communal amity.
b) Establishing Dogra Art Museum in Mubarak Mandi Complex.
c) Got refurbished the old buildings in the Mubarak Mandi Complex housing
the rich archives where more than 8 lacs files have been preserved and
Public Library where more than 23 thousands books are kept.
d) Succeeded in getting Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society constituted
(an autonomous body) with the Chief Minister of the state as Chairman &
President Dogra Sadar Sabha as Vice Chairman of the Governing body for
renovation/conservation of this prestigious heritage.
e) Succeeded in getting hundreds of Crores of Rupees sanctioned by the
Union Government for the conservation of this historic heritage.
f) Establishment of Veer Bhoomi Park (Dedicated to the valiant soldiers of
the soil) with the cost of crores of Rupees on the National Highway at
Samba.
g) Preservation of Historical monuments like Forts & Palaces at different
places including Border districts of Poonch & Rajouri.
3) Striving for the cause of people of the State in general and Duggar
Pradesh in particular: –
a) After vigorous agitation, Dogri Language was got included in the 8th
schedule of the Indian Constitution.
b) Honouring the Dogra Stalwarts is the Annual feature of the Sabha. World
renowned Dogra artists like Sh. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Allah
Rakha Khan (Santoor & Tabla Maestros) & Smt. Padma Sachdeva (Dogri
poetess) were honoured for the promotion of art and culture.
c) Succeeded in enhancing the remuneration and empowering of
Numberdars / Chowkidars (the grass root Institutions) of the State to
perform their duties properly.
d) Founded Mahapanchayat to fight for the restoration of Powers to the
Panchayats by adopting the 73 rd & 74 th amendment of the Panchayati Raj
Act in the State.
e) Taking up the cause of artists of the region, launched a vigorous struggle
at State & National Level for starting of Duggar Channel from Doordarshan
Kendra Jammu.
f) Literary fests are being organised to promote the Langauge & Culture.
g) Succeeded in getting the formation of cabinets Sub-Committee for solving
the problems of the Ex-servicemen.
h) For promotion of sports – General Zorawar Singh Hockey Club, Union
Sporting Club and Maharaja Hari Singh Cricket Club were founded.
i) To inculcate the moral values in the youth, Ram Leela Clubs in the whole
region are being encouraged by organising functions to honour the best
actors & clubs for playing Ram Leela during Navratras.
j) Sabha is contributing a lot for the poor and down trodden and also to the
sufferers of national calamities.
k) Extended all type of support to the border people who are always under
fire from across the border and even lose their crop and other property
every now and then.
l) Meritorious students of the region are being honoured after the University
& Board results every year.
m) “Save the Birds Day” is the Annual feature of the Sabha and is organised
during hot summer days involving all the people specially the students,
Numberdars / Chowkidars, Sarpanches and Panches to spread the
message of providing water for the birds, thousands of clay pots are
distributed among the public and put up at various public places i.e parks &
gardens etc.
n) To promote pilgrim tourism Initiated “Annual Charri Yatra” to the holy
Shrines of Purmandal and Uttarbeni (Gupt Ganga).
o) Organising of the functions in the memory of martyrs wherein war widow
and the family members of the martyrs are honoured, every year.
