A joint delegation of the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and the All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) called upon the J&K State assembly Speaker Shri Kavinder Gupta led by President DSS Th. Gulchain Singh Charak to project a great hardship being faced by the local population, tourists, traders and daily commuters of Jammu region due to the unnecessary road block created by barriers in front of the winter secretariat during winter months. Besides the delegation the meeting was attended by the concerned security and police officers of the government. Madam,
The delegation projected that a very important and vital road from Shalimar-to-Dogra hall is closed by the authorities which virtually divides the important segments of Jammu city, and causes great hardships to the general public, tourists and daily commuters. Besides making it difficult and expensive to reach Ranvireshwar temple it causes uncalled for and unnecessary hardships to the population of the area around the secretariat and literally dissects the Holy city of temples. The Road in front of the secretariat is the main artery road running through heart of town and needs widening from Indira Chowk to the Raj Bhawan. Once closed for six long months, all its traffic gets diverted to the crowded Parade-ground area resulting in persistent traffic jams, accidents and adding to pollution. This virtually divides the city vertically in two halfs. It causes great inconvenience to walking commuters, tourists, women, school children, the old senior citizens, hawkers, cart pullers etc; as also creating unnecessary avoidable traffic chaos and congestion. The road between Indira Chowk to the Raj Bhawan needs widening into a proper double lane road. The entrance to the secretariat may be shifted toward the secure parking area. It blocks the route to famous and historical Ranvireshwar Shiv temple thus hurting the religious sentiments of the people. It also blocks easy access to the historical monuments of Raja Jambulochan, which is symbolic to the basis of establishing the city of Jammu besides Gandhi Bhawan, Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Memorial Park, Mubarak Mandi Heritage and proposed Gandola. The route to historical Raghunath Bazar and the famous Raghunath temple is also cut off, besides, the road leading to the SMGS Hospital, thus adversely affecting pilgrimage, tourism, trade and Health care. Even the Dead bodies from this area are forced to be carried to Jogi Gate walking over a detour of three km by the bereaved families, moaning ladies elders and children. The unique facility of MH Zanana Park, the only one of its kind in the country is denied to half the city for six months every year. The important areas of DC’s offices and banks get difficult to access adding to time and expenditure for the poor.
The speaker gave a very patient hearing and considered each points projected by the members. He was positive and receptive. None of the security/ police officer presented any difficulty in removal of this barrier during the meeting. The speaker was kind to assure that to start with as an immediate relief the pedestrian commuters may be allowed to walk to and fro on the walk path across the road. His spontaneous positive response was hailed by the delegation which hoped that the road will be once again thrown open to public in near future. IGP security along with other officers were also present in the meeting.
