The Independence Day was celebrated jointly by Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and the All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) members at the Dogra Hall in the DSS complex. The Tricolour was hoisted by Former minister, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, president DSS and convener of the AJCSF amidst singing of national anthem.
The event was unique by the participation of members of DSS and AJCSF who belong to all communities and represent different regions of the J&K State prominently exhibiting the composite Dogra culture. The members were seen embracing each other for greeting and the affection and gaiety was like any major festival of the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Th. Gulchain Singh Charak said that the Independence has come about after millions of sacrifices in the sub-continent to rid of the foreign rule that kept us enslaved for two centuries. Freedom is precious and we must preserve it with mutual faith, love and a strong feeling of nationality. He cautioned that efforts are being made to disturb peace in the State by sparking a communal divide and anti-nationalism; that design must be defeated by our strong unity and respect for each other’s sensitivities. All members wished for a strong Indian nation that will lead the world on the path of peace and development one day. The celebration concluded by joint chanting of the national song.
