Press Release
Today on 29th of May, 2019, a team of the members of Dogra Sadar Sabha J&K comprising Chhankar Singh, Member working Committee, Angrez Singh, Sarpanch Kartholi, Balwant Singh, Sarpanch Smailpur, Rajeev Kumar, Ranjit Singh, Gopal Singh, Madan Singh, Pritam Singh, Chuni Lal Bhagat, Karan Singh, and Kamal Singh led by Sh. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Incharge youth wing visited the cremation site at Devika near Mandal where the maximum land had been encroached upon illegally by some elements for which a complaint had been lodged by Dogra Sadar Sabha with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and also had meeting with him in his office chamber on 21st May, 2019. They thanked the Divisional Commissioner and District administration Samba for retrieving 14 Kanals of land from the encroachers and making available to devotees for public purpose. It may be recalled that the place is used for cremation of the dead by a vast population of the surrounding areas. They also urged the administration to retrieve the remaining encroached land also and secure it by a proper compound wall or wire fence to save future encroachments. The members also requested that one more shed for cremation be constructed since sometimes larger number of bodies are brought for cremation at the same time and the waiting time gets longer—more so when the river is in spate after monsoon or winter rains. They further demanded that Govt. should make necessary arrangements for providing firewood as per govt. rates to the people for cremation purpose.
Sh. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, head of the team of DSS also pointed out that caring less about the Distt Administration’s orders to ban excavation of sand, the illegal excavation is going on unabated. This, besides sacrilege of religious sanctity of ‘Gupt Ganga’, also increases the depth of the river site making emersion of the mortal remains difficult.
Dogra Sadar Sabha thanked all those who helped in this noble effort that shall help in retaining the sanctity and glory of this important place of pilgrimage and religious rites for vast Hindu Dogra population of the region, who come here from vast distances from all over the country. DSS conveyed their special gratitude to the DDC Samba and other concerned officials of the District Administration.,
