A delegation of Dogra Sadar Sabha headed by their President Th. Gulchain Singh Charak called on the Chief Secretary J&K, Shri Arun Kumar Mehta, IAS in his office. The delegation extended grateful thanks to Hon’ble Lt Governor Shri Manoj Sinha for acceding to DSS long pending demands of enhancing the annuity for the gallantry awardees and Ex-gratia payment to war widows. However they reiterated their demand for building an apt, graceful war memorial at Dal Lake Srinagar, for all the Indians who have made supreme sacrifices for defence and protection of J&K since 1947.
The delegation raised various issues of public interest with the CS that included damages to houses in Ramban and resettlement / compensation to the uprooted population, maintenance of Ranbir Singh Canal, better emoluments and empowering the Numberdar / Chowkidar institutions, removal of the barrier on Gen NC Vij Road opposite secretariat. Besides these, the DSS expressed dismay over the slow progress on renovation of Mubarak Mandi Complex, which needed expeditious and a more methodical approach before greater damage occurs to the archives and the items on display in the museum. The delegation also requested that the museum and the complex be made accessible to common people, visitors and tourists at the earliest.
The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them the government was aware and cautious on all these issues and all necessary result oriented steps will be taken under rules in regards to all the points raised by the delegation.
