An emergent meeting of the executive body of the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) and All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) was held under the Sabha President Th. Gulchain Singh Charak. Keeping in view the sentiments of the general public and Dogras in particular, all members unanimously resolved to observe 23rdSept as a holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Emperor of the Dogra dynasty.
Maharaja is adorned for his secular and forward looking policies that emphasized gender equality, women education and empowerment; besides removing the shackles of untouchability, Sati-Pratha and other social evils that haunted the society. Speaking on the occasion Th. G.S. Charak said that the far sightedness of the Maharaja Hari Singh is admired even by his critics and strong opponents who are now taking refuge behind his name to press for continuation of Article 35A inducted through back door by unsound legal procedure. Talking of Article 35A, he observed that it has lost its meaning after the blatant, unchecked mass migrations of population from Assam, Bihar Orissa and even the foreigners from Bangladesh and Myanmar who are a security threat. We Dogras irrespective of class community, religion and political affiliations must stand united on this issue and ascertain our righteous claim instead of begging for it.
Calling it a “double faced hypocrisy” he said “on one hand we are not doing enough to push back these unlawfully migrated and settled populations and facilitating them by ration cards, PRCs and even Aadhar Cards while on the other we are using Article 35A against our own daughters by disowning their spouses and children. Why don’t we accept the West Pakistani Refugee, Gorkhas and the Balmikis first? Who are born in the state and living here for the third generation and have contributed significantly to the State asked Col Dr. Virendra Sahi.
The DSS exhorted all Dogras, Students’ Organisations, Teachers’ Associations, Schools Colleges Associations to hold programmes to pay tributes to the Maharaja instead of routine class work. J & K High Court Bar Association, NGOs, business establishments, trade and commerce units to celebrate 23rd Sept as Maharaja Hari Singhji’s birth anniversary to pay tributes to the beloved Maharaja. The DSS also called upon all, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings to observe 23rd Sept as a holiday. DSS will hold a function at Dogra Hall on 23rd September 2017.
Sh.Charak President DSS supported the protest call given by Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu & the bandh call given by Chamber for commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu as the toll tax is being levied till date is in contravention to the spirit of GST. He also condemned the repeated cease fire violations by Pakistan and asked the government to fully compensate the victims who are injured or have lost their lives in Pakistan’s unprovoked firing and also for the damaged crops and live stock/cattles.
