DSS Resolves Steps to Promote Language & Art
After a vigorous struggle for many years at Jammu and New Delhi Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) with prominent Dogri institutions/organizations like Duggar Manch led by Sh. Mohan Singh Slathia was able to get Dogri language included in the 8th schedule in 2003 vide 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act 2003 on 22nd December, 2003. DSS observed the 15th anniversary of the achievement as ‘Dogri Manyata Diwas’ by holding a colourful cultural programme at Sabha Bhawan on Sunday.
The programme that started by lighting the traditional lamp, included a Dogri Kavi Sammelan, presentation of Dogri folk music by renowned artists. Various poets presented their poetic verses and were whole heartedly applauded. The programme included ‘Dogri folk songs’ by Sh. Shamsher Mohd. Ghulam Mohammad party. Prominent among the poets were Th. Mohan Singh, Dr. Gian Singh, Sh. Randhir Singh Raipuria, Sh. Shivdev Singh Shusil, Smt. Usha Kiran Kiran, Dr. Sushma Rani, Smt. Sunita Bhadwal, Sh, Darshan Darshi, Sh. Bishan Singh Dardi, Sh. Kewal Kumar Kumar, Sh. Mangal Dass Dogra, Smt. Vijaya Thakur, Sh. Tara Chand Kalandhari, Sh. Mulkh Raj Bhamagi & Sh. Shamsher Singh. Smt Asha Kesar presented a Dogri Lok Geet (Bhakh) that spell bound the audience. C. S. Katal and party presented melodious Baran.
There were talks in Dogri by distinguished Dogra personalities who emphasized the necessity of preserving Dogri language and urged writers and poets to devote themselves in developing, promoting and popularizing the language by writing more and producing quality literature.
The meeting also made some important resolutions that included:-
- To put in all out efforts to promote Dogri art, culture, language and preserve the Dogra heritage.
- Make maximum efforts to promote by speaking, Dogri language within homes, in family with children and in society.
- Urge the Government to introduce Dogri as a subject in all government and private schools. It is an irony that the language is introduced at Jammu University level without introducing in schools even in Himachal Pradesh & Punjab thus making it futile in absence of qualified takers.
- It was also resolved to request the UT government to revive the Jammu Festival which was started by the efforts of DSS about 20 years back; in its original form to promote Dogri language, local artists, artisans, folk music/dances and cottage industry. The resolutions read out by Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, VrC were unanimously adopted. The event was also used to honour some selected Dogra personalities, artists among distinguished achievers including former VCs of Jammu |University |Prof. R. |L. Sharma and Prof. R. D. Sharma. In the end Sh. K. S. Jamwal presented the formal vote of thanks.
Prominent among those who spoke at the occasion were President DSS Th. Gulchain Singh Charark, president J&K Ex Services League Maj. Gen. Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM, Col Karan Singh, Sh. Gambhir Dev Singh Charak. Prominent among the dignitaries that graced the event included Prof. R. R. Sharma, Ex-VC Jammu University, Maj. Gen. Sunita Kapoor, Mrs. S. Charak, VSM Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, VrC, R. D. Sharma, Ex-VC Jammu University Sh. Prem Sagar Gupta, Sh. Neeraj Anand, President CTFJ, Sh. G. A. Khawaja, Sh. Amanat Ali Shah, S. Kulbir Singh, R. K. Sharma, Sh. Chhankar Singh, Sh. Dharam Chand, Sh. S. S. Bhalwal, Dr. G.S. Charak, R. S. Manhas, Dr. S. K. Digra, Sh. Ravi Singh, Sh. Bashir Malik, Sh. Baldev Raj & a large number of Numberdars, Chowkidars, Panches and Sarpaches.,
