Press Release
Persistent on raising vital concerns of Jammu the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) held a meeting of its executive body and think tank convened by the DSS president and former minister Th. Gulchain Singh Charak. The meeting greatly appreciated Shri Khurshid Ahmed Ganai Advisor to Hon’ble Governor for giving a spot decision and follow up action giving relief to children of more than 160 schools of Ramban & Gool areas reverting them to summer timings thus saving many thousand students from the agony of facing the blazing heat under tin roofs. The meeting also recorded their gratitude to the Advisor for reducing the problems to ease off traffic bottle neck at Ramban although the construction work on four lanes is moving very slow. Members expressed satisfaction for putting on track the process of tendering and identifying agencies for Mubarak Mandi Heritage site restoration/ renovation works. However were apprehensive of greater damages during the ensuing monsoon very soon. President DSS suggested that all the artifacts and other items of Dogra Art Museum may be temporarily shifted to duly renovated Old AHQ building till the accommodation earmarked as per the reuse plan is properly restored and also urged the authorities to immediately shift the archives records and files to the old information department building at Mubarak Mandi after proper renovation on war footing.
Th. Gulchain Singh Charak hoped that actions are in pipeline for paying compensations to border area farmers Jammu of region who have suffered losses due to storms, hostile weather and HT cable short circuit fires that ruined their crops in totality.
He informed the members that his personal meeting with the Advisor, Shri K Vijay Kumar could not materialize due to later’s commitment in the Shri Amarnath Yatra. However he drew the attention of the Advisor for Health and Medical Education towards the apathetical approach with which the reservation to Economical Weaker Section (EWS) is being handled for the NEET-2019 aspirants, when the counseling has already started. He also pointed out that out of 85 seats allotted for the EWS category only 30 have been given to GMC Jammu. While 30 seats are allotted to GMC Srinagar and 25 allotted to SKIMS which has only one college; both in Kashmir region. Two new colleges of Jammu region are out rightly ignored. This is great discrimination with Jammu region @ 30 v/s 55 in spite of larger Jammu population, more colleges and bigger number of aspirants. The DSS urged the Advisor, Health Education and the Hon’ble Governor to intervene personally to mitigate dis-parity with speed before the damage is complete and seats are allotted and given away in the usual discriminatory, biased trend which may set a bad precedence for future.
DSS members noted with concern the arithmetical distribution of the Set Top Boxes without consideration to the density of population on either side of the LoC/IB and the target areas needing counter propaganda programmes. Vast areas from Madhopur to Poonch, Mirpur and Muzafrabad speak Dogri, Pahari, Gojri and Punjabi. There is immediate need of strengthening DD Jammu and employ local artists to generate programmes in these languages, The Kashmiri language and Kashir channel programmes are not understood here and the population will continue to remain tuned on the programmes from across in their own languages or even reproduce those on our set Top Boxes being provided free through local cable operators.
The meeting welcomed the intention of the Hurriyat to come forward for a dialogue with GoI, but hoped that the talks are held strictly under the Indian constitution and the aspirations of Jammu and Ladakh regions will be taken in account. The former minister reiterated his earlier stand that no meaningful solution to the vexed J&K problem can ever be found without taking all three regions on board.
All members in one voice denounced the Jammu political leaders of all hues and parties who seem to be on holiday after the dissolution of Legislative Assembly and are displaying least concern about their constituencies and the Jammu province as a whole.
The meeting was attended by Prof. N. K. Dogra, Col. Karan Singh Jamwal, Sh. Prem Sagar Gupta, Col. Dr Virendra K. Sahi,VrC, Amanat Ali Shah, Brig M. S. Jamwal, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Janak Khajuria, Chhankar Singh , Dr. Raghubir Singh and others.
