After a meeting of their executive body held at the Sabha Bhawan, the President Dogra Sadar Sabha and former minister (DSS) whole heatedly appreciated the number of development works announced for being initiated in the Jammu region by the central government. He said that “the nationalist Dogras welcome the Hon’ble Prime Minister and his entourage to the Duggar Pradesh with a kind of package seen for the first time here”. He hoped that the implementation will follow with the same spirit, since many earlier announced initiatives for the Jammu region are resting in the cold storage for “one reason or the other; and some even without a reason to quote“.The members of the executive body pointed out at the timing of these offers in relation of the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in the State; yet called it a “better late than never” initiative for this region that has always faced blatant discrimination on all fronts including allocations and implementations. The members in one voice pointed out that it was painful to note that in spite of their various requests made to PMO for the last four and a half years, the Hon’ble Prime Minister has not found time to meet the delegation of DSS which is a 114 years old secular organization of Duggar Pradesh and represents all communities, castes and religions. Th. Gulchain Singh recalled that a strong DSS delegation had also gone to New Delhi to meet the PM, while we gave memorandums to the Home and Finance Ministers and reached out to the PMO with no avail.Looking forward at a brighter future, the members of the DSS hoped that the newly launched initiatives should see the completion and not stay in files/ Jumlas as in case of over half a dozen important projects approved earlier by the coalition government. The DSS members pointed out that the nation must understand that it is the Jammu region that houses population from all parts of the State. Jammu and Ladakh comprise more than two third of the State and truly represent the cosmopolitan composite secular J&K culture for which the State was always known and that culture is still maintained and retained here.Prominent among those who expressed their views in the meeting were Prof. N. K. Dogra, Col. Karan Singh, Sh. Prem Sagar Gupta, Col. Dr Virendra K. Sahi, Brig M. S. Jamwal & Sh. Ved Verma.
